Jim Shields has been writing since he was a teenager growing up in middle Tennessee. He continued writing creatively for college courses and for the local newspaper while attending Berea College. He received his degree from the University of Kentucky.
Unique story telling skills and a desire to write creatively have been important elements in Jim Shields’ life for many years. Recollections from growing up on the family farm in Tennessee have provided him countless images and experiences from which to draw for his stories.

His children and grandchildren have provided myriad opportunities to use his craft, focusing on character building and crucial life lessons.
​
His other interests include book collections, reading history and nature photography. A favorite getaway from his extensive business travels is Cades Cove in Tennessee. One might assume that it is on such retreats that he writes. While a few reflections included in his book have resulted from fresh air and solitude, most just happen… sometimes even waking him in the middle of the night.
